Tennessee's General Assembly is advancing legislation backed by Governor Bill Lee that would completely remove permits on open and concealed carrying for handguns in the state. The bill, dubbed the "Constitutional Carry Law," would make it state law that a person can carry a handgun without having to apply for a permit in the state, provided the handgun is legal.

The bill states:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 39-17-1307, is amended by adding the following new subsection:

    (g) It is an exception to the application of subsection (a) that a person is carrying, whether openly or concealed, a handgun and:

        (1) The person meets the qualifications for the issuance of an enhanced handgun carry permit under § 39-17-1351(b) and (c). For purposes of this subdivision (g)(1), "qualifications" does not include completion of an application under § 39-17-1351(b) and (c);

        (2) The person lawfully possesses the handgun; and

        (3) The person is in a place where the person has a right to be.

This bill is a great step in the right direction, as Biden embarks on one of the toughest gun control measures in the country, states like Tennessee are saying "enough is enough!" Being able to carry a gun is a constitutional right, and Tennessee is taking steps to bring us back to the time when carrying a gun in public was perfectly acceptable and didn't mean you were going to murder everyone (to read more about how America is much more safe when there are no gun control laws, click here).

To be clear, nobody who intends to commit murder should be carrying a gun, as murder is wrong. But this bill does not allow murderers to murder. Instead it allows citizens to defend themselves. This bill provides the perfect antidote to murder, as at least 50% of criminals have said they would not have committed the crime they committed if they knew someone was armed. The implications of allowing people to carry guns would lower the crime rate better than virtually any crime measure from the government in history.
